Blaze at crude oil driller in Kuwait extinguished

Kuwait : The fire that broke out at a crude oil driller in the north of the country is controlled, the Kuwait Oil Company, KOC, announced late on Wednesday.

Kuwait News Agency, KUNA, quoted KOC spokesman, Saad Al-Azmi, as saying, "The Company's fire-fighting teams are carrying on with their duty and are taking precautionary measures to prevent recurrence of the incident."

These procedures, according Al-Azmi, include cooling off the platform and maintaining a maximum emergency alert until the situation is assessed.

The company announced earlier on Wednesday that roads leading to northern regions and oilfields were safe and that readings of emitted gas "is assuring, the thick gas is caused by putting out the blaze." On Tuesday, the Environmental Public Authority said that the gases caused by the fire contained no hazardous elements, KUNA reported.
