Pakistan Confirms ‘Planned And Calibrated’ Strikes In Afghanistan

Email: online@newsofbahrain.com

Kabul: Pakistan conducted airstrikes on sites in Afghanistan, according to the Afghan Taliban government claiming death of nine civilians, including women and children, and injured 11 others. The claimed strikes occurred in two Afghan regions, as tensions between the neighbouring nations continue to rise.

Pakistan confirmed the military action, but stated that its forces targeted insurgent hideouts rather than civilian areas. Islamabad stated the strikes as ‘planned and calibrated,’ claiming 22 militants were killed in the operation. Neither side's casualty totals have been independently verified.

The strikes coincide with escalating cross-border hostility and accusations from both governments. Pakistan has accused the Taliban leadership of allowing militant groups, including the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), to operate from Afghan territory and launch strikes into Pakistan. Kabul has often denied that it shelters anti-Pakistan extremists.

Pakistan said that such operations are carried out in response to attacks and other security threats emanating from Afghan territory, while Afghan officials have criticized the strikes and recorded civilian casualties.

The ongoing violence has strained relations between the two countries, with international efforts by China, Turkey, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia aimed at reducing tensions and preventing further escalation.
