Bahrain, UN Discuss Regional Developments

Bahrain’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, met with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.

The meeting highlighted cooperation between Bahrain and the United Nations and its specialised agencies across areas of mutual interest.

Dr. Al Zayani conveyed the appreciation of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, for Guterres’ efforts to strengthen the UN’s role in addressing international issues and challenges.

The Minister reaffirmed Bahrain’s commitment to continued cooperation with the UN and its various bodies, highlighting the constructive outcomes achieved in support of the Kingdom’s development and aspirations for further progress and prosperity.

The two sides discussed the latest regional developments and challenges facing countries in the region, including the repercussions of disruptions to maritime navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and Bab Al Mandab.

They also reviewed issues on the UN General Assembly agenda and exchanged views on the UN Security Council’s efforts to address regional conflicts and support international efforts to promote peace and security.

Bahrain’s Permanent Representative to the UN in New York, Ambassador Jamal Fares Al Rowaiei, and Ambassador Saeed Abdulkhaliq Saeed, Chief of the Coordination and Follow-up Sector at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, attended the meeting.
