Rotting Food, Flies and Foul Odour Plague LA Residents

Los Angeles: Residents of Boyle Heights in Los Angeles struggle with an unbearable decaying odour after a massive fire destroyed a cold-storage warehouse containing over 85 million pounds of food.

The Lineage Logistics warehouse caught fire on June 17th and blazed for eight days. With the refrigeration system down, massive amounts of meat and other food began to defrost and decay, emitting a foul odour into neighbouring residential areas.

Residents have reported headaches, nausea, and discomfort, and the decomposing food attracted a large number of flies and rodents. Health inspectors found decaying waste and pest control problems on the site and ordered the corporation to rectify the sanitation issues.

Cleanup crews are currently working to remove the spoilt food, with almost 1,500 tons of garbage has removed in hundreds of truckloads. However, the size of the waste has made the task more difficult, and the odour continues to bother the local neighbourhood.

Local residents are asking for faster action, saying they should not have to put up with the horrible smell and insect problems. Authorities and the corporation are undertaking cleanup and odor-control measures while the area waits for situations to return to normal.
