Washington: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said he secured US support to pursue licensed production of Patriot air defence interceptors after what he described as a ‘good meeting’ with President Donald Trump at the White House.

Zelensky said Trump agreed to provide licences for Patriot missile production, adding that he also met representatives of major US defence companies to discuss possible joint manufacturing projects.

The talks came as Ukraine and Russia intensified long-range attacks, with Kyiv pressing Washington for more air defence systems to counter Russia's increasing use of ballistic missiles.

Trump described the meeting as productive, saying ‘many things were discussed’ and that it ‘went very well.’

Zelensky also urged the United States to approve the purchase of additional Patriot missiles, calling them critical to protecting Ukrainian cities. He later addressed US senators as lawmakers advanced a bipartisan sanctions bill targeting Russia, saying the move was an important step towards achieving peace.

The Ukrainian leader said Russia was suffering heavy battlefield losses and claimed President Vladimir Putin was losing the initiative in the war despite continuing large-scale attacks on Ukraine.
