NGOs Say Trump-Linked Albania Resort Has Already Caused 'Irreparable' Damage

Tirana: Environmental groups have warned that preliminary work on a luxury resort project linked to the Trump family has already caused ‘irreparable’ damage to one of Albania's last untouched coastal ecosystems, raising concerns over biodiversity loss.
Scientists and activists said construction work near the protected Narta Lagoon has destroyed nesting sites used by endangered loggerhead turtles, disturbed bird habitats, and disrupted water flows between the lagoon and the Adriatic Sea after roads were cleared, trees felled and a bridge built.
The project, first proposed by Jared Kushner's investment firm and linked to the Trump family, aims to develop a luxury resort on Albania's southern coast. Environmental organisations have described the destruction as an ‘absolute biodiversity massacre’, while the Albanian government has defended the development, saying it will create jobs and attract investment.
The development has sparked weeks of protests in Albania, with demonstrators accusing the government of sacrificing protected natural areas for commercial interests.
