US Begins Review of Military Presence in Europe

Washington: The United States has begun a review of its military presence in Europe, a move aimed at ensuring NATO allies take greater responsibility for the continent's conventional defence, US officials have said.
US Defence Under Secretary Elbridge Colby said the review follows plans outlined last month by Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth and is intended to accelerate NATO's transition towards a ‘stronger, more equitable and sustainable’ alliance.
The review comes as Washington continues to press European allies to increase defence spending and shoulder a larger share of the region's security burden, while the US focuses more on strategic challenges elsewhere, particularly China.
Officials have not indicated whether the review will result in troop reductions or redeployments but said its findings will shape the future posture of US forces across Europe.
