BERLIN: Two men died on Saturday after a small private plane crashed directly into the roof of a home in northwestern Germany.
The light aircraft struck the pitched roof of a house head-on in a residential neighborhood in Ganderkesee, near Oldenburg. Authorities confirmed that both occupants, identified as two men aged 65 and 77 from the city of Bremen, lost their lives in the disaster.
Emergency crews conducted lengthy and complex recovery operations to extract the plane wreckage embedded within the home. The Delmenhorst police department initially reported one occupant dead, and another missing before search teams ultimately determined both men had died.
Once responders safely removed the aircraft from the rooftop, evacuated residents were permitted to return to their homes. German authorities have officially opened an investigation to determine the underlying cause of the accident.
