5 Foreign Climbers Found Dead on Mount Elbrus in Russia

Moscow: The bodies of five foreign climbers, believed to be Bosnian nationals, have been found on Mount Elbrus in Russia after a seven-member group lost its way in worsening weather.
The climbers reportedly strayed from their route after strong winds and deteriorating conditions. Two members fell ill and died at an altitude of about 5,100 metres, while rescuers later found three more bodies and two survivors.
Bosnia’s Foreign Minister Elmedin Konaković described the deaths as a major tragedy. The seven climbers were reportedly from the central Bosnian town of Zenica and included a married couple and a doctor.
Mount Elbrus, Europe’s highest peak at 5,642 metres, is known for sudden changes in weather and difficult climbing conditions.
