Los Angeles: An American mother has been placed in pretrial detention after being accused of suffocating her young twins and attempting to blame their deaths on vaccines. Andrea Shaw, twenty-three, faces the death penalty following a thorough investigation in the state of Idaho.

Shaw claimed her children suffocated eight days after receiving several childhood vaccines. Her testimony became central to an anti-vaccine organization's lawsuit accusing the American Academy of Pediatrics of lying about vaccine safety.

However, health experts reiterated that childhood vaccines do not increase the risk of asphyxiation. They also questioned whether the twins, who were not genetically identical, could have died from immune reactions simultaneously.

In court, a judge rejected Shaw's request to reduce her two-million-dollar bail bond and instead ordered her into pretrial detention. Her defense lawyer argued that she was a caring and loving mother.

Shaw wanted the bond reduction to be with a newborn infant she delivered just days before her arrest. The anti-vaccine group's former leader, Robert Kennedy Jr., has not commented publicly on the criminal case.
