London: British police have arrested a 28-year-old white British national on suspicion of murdering 78-year-old Ann Widdecombe. The arrest took place late Saturday evening at an address in South Yorkshire, following the release of a 26-year-old man who had been detained in the investigation.
Widdecombe was found dead at her Devon home on Thursday with ‘serious injuries’. Assistant Chief Constable Matt Longman confirmed that officers believe the attack occurred on Wednesday, July 8, at approximately 12:30 pm.
While inquiries continue, police have emphasized there is no information to suggest the incident is terrorism-related. Detectives remain committed to establishing the full circumstances surrounding the killing of the outspoken former Conservative minister.
Widdecombe served as a Conservative MP from 1987 to 2010 before later joining Nigel Farage's hard-right party. A staunch supporter of Brexit, her death has been described by Farage as a 'terrible reflection on modern Britain,' sparking concerns regarding the safety of public figures.
