Hundreds of Peruvian Babies Named After Haaland

Lima : More than 500 newborns in Peru have been named Haaland, inspired by Norwegian football star Erling Haaland, despite most families having no connection to Norway.

The trend emerged after Peru's national registry revealed that hundreds of parents chose the name following the striker's rise to global fame. In many cases, Haaland is the child's first name rather than a surname.

The unusual naming trend reflects the growing influence of international football stars in Peru, where parents have increasingly chosen names inspired by famous athletes and celebrities.

Haaland, who plays for Manchester City and Norway, has become one of the world's most recognisable footballers thanks to his prolific goalscoring record and numerous titles. His popularity has fuelled the trend among Peruvian parents looking for distinctive names for their children.
