Caracas,: Venezuela has ended search and rescue operations after the country's devastating twin earthquakes, with the official death toll rising to at least 4,118, as authorities shift focus to a massive recovery and rebuilding effort.
More than 16,700 people were injured in the June 24 earthquakes, while thousands remain missing.
The United Nations has appealed for nearly $300 million in humanitarian aid to support around 1.3 million affected people and estimates the damage at $37 billion. Emergency clinics, shelters and relief centres have been set up as communities begin the long process of rebuilding.
Interim President Delcy Rodríguez has defended the government's response and called for the release of Venezuelan assets frozen abroad to help fund reconstruction. However, public frustration has grown over the pace of the initial rescue effort and the scale of the devastation.
