DHAKA: Ousted Bangladeshi leader Sheikh Hasina, 78, plans to return home this December to surrender before local courts. Currently in exile in India, the former Prime Minister faces a death sentence in absentia regarding her 2024 ouster.

‘They may arrest me on my return, they may even kill me,’ Hasina declared, stating she prefers to die on her own soil.

Hasina, who plans to return with senior Awami League officials, insists all legal charges are ‘farcical’ and politically motivated. She aims to stand with party workers who have faced significant repression.

While Bangladesh has sought her extradition, Hasina claims her return is a personal decision to face the judiciary. This move sets the stage for a dramatic and high-stakes legal confrontation upon her arrival later this year.
