California: Meta has officially launched Muse Image, an AI tool that utilizes public Instagram photos to generate content. Debuting this Tuesday, the system automatically enrolls adult public accounts, enabling others to reuse personal images and audio for AI production.

While Meta confirms that private profiles and users under eighteen are excluded, the default inclusion of public accounts has sparked significant public backlash.

To restrict this, users must manually access their account settings, navigate to the "Sharing and Reuse" section, and disable the relevant permissions to opt out of the system completely.

The SAG-AFTRA union issued a strong condemnation on Friday, labeling the automatic enrollment an unacceptable miscalculation that disregards public sentiment regarding digital image safety.

Detractors argue that such tools create dangerous risks, referencing past incidents where AI systems were exploited to generate non-consensual explicit content.

Meta plans to integrate Muse Image into Facebook and Messenger platforms in the near future, raising ongoing privacy concerns for many platform users who feel their digital likeness is being compromised without prior, explicit consent.
