Israel Warns US of Alleged Iranian Plot to Kill Trump

Washington: Israel has shared intelligence with the United States alleging that Iran recently developed a new plan to assassinate President Donald Trump, according to media reports citing sources familiar with the matter.

The warning was reportedly passed to US officials this week and described a specific alleged plot. However, US intelligence agencies had not independently verified the information and were not tracking the alleged plan before receiving the Israeli report.

US officials have long warned that Iran could seek to target Trump in retaliation for the 2020 US drone strike that killed Iranian General Qasem Soleimani. Responding to questions about the latest report, Trump said Iran wanted to kill him and claimed he had recently learned he was at the top of the country's alleged assassination target list.

Some US officials believe the Israeli intelligence could also be part of a broader effort to influence Trump's decisions as he considers whether to increase military pressure on Iran.

The report comes as tensions between Washington and Tehran remain high despite ongoing diplomatic efforts. While both sides are still working towards a possible nuclear agreement by mid-August, recent military exchanges have raised doubts over the future of a fragile ceasefire.
