Stockholm: Sweden and Germany have officially agreed to significantly deepen their bilateral collaboration on air defense, including the rapid development of unmanned systems.
Swedish Defense Minister Pal Jonson and his German counterpart, Boris Pistorius, signed a formal letter of intent outlining this strategic military pact during the NATO summit in Ankara.
This new partnership focuses heavily on exploring joint development opportunities for cutting-edge unmanned technology.
Consequently, Germany and several other nations have expressed strong interest in acquiring Sweden’s sophisticated Saab Gripen fighter jet system.
Jonson noted that Sweden remains one of only two European nations, alongside France, capable of producing new fighter aircraft.
The defense agreement arrives amidst expanding international demand for Sweden’s advanced military hardware. In late June, Ukraine signed a major contract to acquire sixteen of the latest Gripen E fighter jets to upgrade its aerial capabilities.
This purchase follows an earlier agreement where Kyiv committed to buying up to twenty Gripen E jets. To further assist, Sweden pledged to donate sixteen older C/D models to bolster Ukraine's air defense.
