Fresh Wave of Coordinated Attacks Hits Mali

Bamako: Insurgents conducted coordinated strikes in five sites across Mali early Saturday, targeting cities in the country's north, central, and south, in the latest challenge to the military-led administration. The army stated the impacted districts included Anefis, Aguelhok, Gao, Sévaré, and Kenioroba, and that the situation was being closely monitored.

The Azawad Liberation Front (FLA) claimed responsibility for some of the strikes, and its spokesperson confirmed that the group participated in the onslaught. The FLA previously collaborated with the al-Qaeda-linked Jama'at Nusrat al-Islam wal Muslimin in a devastating April attack on Bamako's airport, killing Mali's defence minister.

No official mortality estimates were given right away, but security forces resumed operations in the impacted districts as authorities assessed the magnitude of the attacks.
