Pakistan PM Shehbaz Sharif to attend Iran supreme leader's funeral

Islamabad: Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced on Thursday that he will fly to Iran to attend the state funeral of Iran's late Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. The visit is in response to an invitation from Iranian officials and comes amid the two neighbours have close diplomatic ties.
Sharif will head a prominent Pakistani delegation to the funeral rites in Tehran, where other foreign leaders and senior officials are expected to pay tribute. The visit is part of a larger journey to Iran and Turkey slated for July 3 to 5.
Pakistan's Foreign Ministry stated that the prime minister's presence underlines Pakistan's solidarity with Iran and the importance it places on bilateral relations. Funeral services are scheduled to begin in Tehran and conclude with Khamenei's burial in Mashhad.
