MOSCOW: Prominent Russian hard-liners are fiercely pressing President Vladimir Putin to abandon U.S.-mediated diplomacy and launch a full-scale military escalation.
This surge in nationalist pressure follows an intensifying campaign of deep Ukrainian air strikes targeting key Russian rear areas.
The calls for tougher measures have sharpened significantly after recent drone strikes hit major hubs, including Moscow, St. Petersburg, and Crimea. Nationalist commentators argue that these attacks expose vulnerabilities, provoking an intense domestic debate over how Russia can defend its vast territory while pursuing its war aims.
Aggressive demands from the hard-line commentariat include full military mobilization, the assassination of Ukrainian leadership, and rendering major Ukrainian cities entirely uninhabitable through heavy bombardment.
