Lisbon: Bonnie Tyler, a veteran Welsh singer, has awakened from a medically induced coma but is still in intensive care at a hospital in Portugal, her team reported. The 75 years old needed emergency intestinal surgery in May due to significant problems. Doctors had put her in an induced coma to help her recover.

Tyler, according to an official statement, is still ‘very unwell,’ however her condition is steadily improving. Doctors remain confident that she will recover completely, but warn that the process will be slow. Her family has also requested privacy and encouraged people not share misinformation regarding her health.

Tyler's scheduled concerts from now till August have been cancelled or postponed due to her ongoing medical treatment. Organisers are confident that some of her autumn concerts will still go forward if her health improves sufficiently.

Tyler, best known for global singles such as ‘Total Eclipse of the Heart’ and ‘Holding Out for a Hero,’ has had a 5 decade music career and was awarded an MBE in 2023 for his contributions to the industry.
