New Delhi: Three Air India aircraft parked at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport Terminal 2 were damaged after strong winds and heavy rain dragged ground support equipment across the tarmac, colliding with the planes.
Airport officials stated that the sudden storm moved equipment, including a passenger stepladder, which collided with the parked aircraft. The involved aircraft were taken off from service for inspection and repair. Two are expected to resume operations soon, while the third will be grounded for an extended period.
India's aviation regulator, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), has started an investigation into the incident. According to reports, some of the equipment involved belonged to Air India Engineering and Indigo, however no injuries were reported.
Social media videos showed strong winds blowing loose equipment around the airport's apron as airport staff tried to secure it. The incident raised concerns about storm readiness and the security of ground equipment during extreme weather conditions.
