Marcos Calls on Senators to Return to Work

Manila: Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. urged senators on Wednesday to stop their boycott and resume legislative work, warning that the current deadlock delayed measures required to deal with growing economic pressures and assist Filipinos affected by global concerns.
‘Go back to work. Get back to work because it is important. We have a lot of work to do,’ Marcos said, as the Senate debate halted proceedings and essential legislative actions. A deadlock between the majority and minority blocs kept the Senate from conducting regular operations for a number of days. Opposition senators' demands that Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano resign remain the core of the conflict, which has resulted in the majority bloc's members frequently missing meetings and cancelling plenary sessions.
According to Marcos, the dispute has caused chaos in the chamber and may delay crucial legislation, such as potential solutions to assist Filipinos in managing growing energy costs and financial strains associated with the Middle East crisis. He emphasised that in order to offer support and carry out policy actions, the government needs legislative support.
The political crisis occurs amid deeper tensions between supporters of Vice President Sara Duterte and the administration. Analysts and industry groups have warned that if lawmakers do not resume normal parliamentary operations, the extended conflict will harm investor trust, postpone reforms, and have an effect on government services.
