Russian Officials Warn Putin Over Rising Cost of Ukraine War

Moscow: Senior Russian financial experts have warned President Vladimir Putin that the increasing cost of the war in Ukraine is making it impossible for the country to move forward, according to reports quoting people involved with internal discussions.
The concerns arise as Russia continues to dedicate a large portion of its budget to military and security expenses, more than four years after starting its fully fledged attack of Ukraine. Officials are allegedly concerned that rising military spending, combined with hyperinflation and labour shortages, will put more strain on the economy.
Economists have cautioned that the strategy carries the risk of scorching the economy and taking funds from civilian industries, even though Russia's military expenditure has boosted industrial production and economic development in defence related sectors. Workforce shortages and rising costs have also grown to be significant issues.
The Kremlin has not indicated that it intends to cut military funding or change its approach in Ukraine, despite the reported warnings. Amid mounting financial strains, Russian officials insist that the economy has adjusted to Western sanctions and is still able to sustain the military effort.
