Sharjah: The families of two Indian girls who were taken into custody following the death of a Pakistani toddler in a Sharjah residential tower have been released on bail as investigations into the incident continue.
Advocate Preeta Sriram Madav, who is handling the case, confirmed that both families had been granted bail and that legal proceedings would continue in accordance with UAE law.
The case relates to the death of a 2 year old Pakistani boy, Muhammad Ahmed, who fell from a staircase in the building last month. Initial reports suggested the child had wandered out of his family's apartment before falling through an opening near an upper-floor staircase.
Investigators later reviewed CCTV footage which reportedly showed the toddler playing with two young girls, one from a family from Kerala and the other from Tamil Nadu, shortly before the incident. The three families were neighbours in the same residential tower.
Authorities have launched a detailed investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fall. Police and child protection officials are examining surveillance footage, interviewing witnesses and inspecting the building to determine how the child gained access to the area and whether safety measures were adequate.
Officials have noted that UAE child protection laws place responsibilities on parents, guardians and property operators to take reasonable steps to ensure children's safety.
The tragedy has prompted concern among residents of the building, with several parents saying they have become more vigilant about monitoring children in common areas. The case remains under investigation.
