GCC Chief Congratulates New OIC Secretary-General
Leaders discuss strengthening partnership and coordination between the two organisations
The Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Jasem Mohamed AlBudaiwi, has congratulated Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed on his election as Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
During a telephone call, AlBudaiwi conveyed his best wishes for the new OIC chief's success in leading joint Islamic action and reaffirmed the GCC’s commitment to supporting efforts to strengthen cooperation and solidarity.
The two officials also discussed ways to enhance partnership and coordination between the OIC and the GCC, with AlBudaiwi pledging the Council’s support for the new Secretary-General.
For his part, Ould Cheikh Ahmed thanked the GCC Secretary-General and praised the role of GCC member states in supporting OIC initiatives. He also stressed his commitment to strengthening fraternal cooperation and coordinating positions in support of common causes and interests.
