Donetsk region, Ukraine: Seven people were killed and 11 injured after a drone struck a passenger bus in Russian-controlled eastern Ukraine, according to local authorities, as Russia reported intercepting hundreds of drones overnight.
The bus was travelling between Moscow and Simferopol in Russian-occupied Crimea when it was hit early on Wednesday, said Denis Pushilin, the Kremlin-appointed head of the Donetsk region.
The attack came amid an escalation in long-range strikes between Russia and Ukraine. Russian officials said more than 350 drones were shot down overnight, including at least 50 over the Leningrad region near St Petersburg.
The latest incident follows a major Russian missile and drone assault on Ukrainian cities a day earlier that killed at least 22 people, including women and children.
Heightened security measures are in place in St Petersburg as the city prepares to host the International Economic Forum, a flagship event expected to draw delegations from more than 130 countries and territories, including senior leaders from China, Uzbekistan and Tanzania.
The continuing exchange of attacks underscores the intensifying nature of the conflict, with both sides increasingly targeting areas far from the battlefield.
