Kyiv: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said U.S.-supplied air defence systems are still ‘absolutely necessary’ after Russia launched one of the war's greatest aerial assaults, targeting Kyiv and several other Ukrainian cities with hundreds of drones and dozens of missiles.
According to Ukrainian officials, Russia launched 656 drones and 73 missiles during the overnight onslaught. The Ukrainian air force claimed to have intercepted the vast bulk of the incoming weaponry, although many strikes inflicted considerable damage to residential buildings and infrastructure. At least 11 individuals were murdered and over 100 injured around the country.
Zelensky reinforced appeals for greater US assistance, specifically Patriot air defence systems and interceptor missiles, claiming that Ukraine's ability to fight against Russian ballistic and hypersonic missiles is mainly reliant on Western-supplied weapons. He urged European countries to strengthen its own air defence systems and provide military support to Kyiv.
In several locations, including Kyiv, Dnipro, Kharkiv, and Zaporizhzhia, the most latest attack caused damage to houses, power plants, and public infrastructure. Rescue operations persisted throughout the day as authorities evaluated all aspects of the destruction.
The incident coincides with escalating tensions and Ukrainian intelligence has repeatedly warned that Russia could be preparing more large-scale drone and missile attacks.
