NEW DELHI: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi hosted Myanmar’s President Min Aung Hlaing in New Delhi on Monday to discuss trade and border security amid Myanmar's ongoing civil war. The meeting marked Min Aung Hlaing’s first foreign trip since transitioning to a civilian leadership post.
The leaders focused heavily on the security of their shared 1,643-kilometer border, which impacts regional connectivity initiatives and India's northeastern states. Modi reaffirmed India's commitment as a trusted neighbor and expressed readiness to support peace and dialogue, though Indian officials emphasized that any solution must be Myanmar-led.
Discussions also covered expanding bilateral trade, which surpassed $2 billion in 2025–2026. Additionally, the leaders addressed cross-border cybercrime, following India's repatriation of over 2,400 citizens from Myanmar-based scam centers over the past year.
