ISLAMABAD: Pakistan's Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) stopped 39,786 international passengers from boarding flights during 2025 as part of a sweeping crackdown on human smuggling and irregular migration.
Immigration Additional Director General Nouman Siddiqui defended the intelligence-led system, explaining that offloading decisions rely on document verification, suspicious travel patterns, and destination-country requirements.
The enforcement surge gained urgency following multiple tragedies, including the June 2023 Greece boat disaster. According to FIA data, 377 Pakistanis have died on illegal migration routes over the past three years, with 109 fatalities recorded in 2025 alone.
Many intercepted individuals were lured by fraudulent sponsorships and fake overseas job offers. Apart from FIA actions, another 34,688 people were unable to travel due to weather, airline disruptions, or other law enforcement interventions. The protective checks have driven down overall foreign deportations of Pakistani nationals by 16 percent.
