Madrid: Millions of people across Europe, the North Atlantic, and parts of the Arctic are preparing to witness a highly anticipated total solar eclipse on August 12, 2026.

Scientists highlight that this will be the first total solar eclipse visible from wide areas of Europe since 1999. This rare celestial occurrence is fueling massive interest worldwide among astronomers, skywatchers, and incoming tourists.

According to the European Space Agency, the path of totality will begin over the Arctic before journeying across eastern Greenland, western Iceland, and large portions of Spain.

In these localized paths, observers will witness the moon completely obscure the sun for several minutes. Spain and Iceland are currently projected to be the prime viewing locations, with local hotels already reporting a significant surge in tourist bookings.

Meanwhile, a deep partial eclipse will stretch across much of Europe, North Africa, and western Asia. Safety experts emphasize that, because looking directly at the sun can cause permanent eye injury, certified eclipse glasses are required during all partial phases.
