Truck Carrying Returning Afghan Families Crashes, Killing 18 inluding 10 children

Kabul : At least 18 people, including 10 children, were killed when a truck carrying Afghan families returning from Pakistan overturned in eastern Afghanistan on Saturday, local officials said.
The crash occurred on the highway linking the eastern city of Jalalabad with the capital Kabul. Authorities said 29 other people were injured in the accident.
According to officials in Laghman province, the victims included 10 children, five women and three men. The truck was transporting Afghan returnees who had been living in Pakistan.
The accident comes as thousands of Afghans continue to leave Pakistan following a crackdown on migrants and refugees. Many families have been travelling back to Afghanistan in overcrowded vehicles along long and often dangerous routes.
More than 447,000 Afghans have returned from Pakistan since the beginning of the year, according to figures from UN migration and refugee agencies.
Road accidents are common in Afghanistan, where poor road conditions, unsafe driving practices and weak enforcement of traffic regulations contribute to a high number of fatalities.
