Havana: Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla has urgently appealed to the international community to prevent a humanitarian catastrophe caused by a tightening United States fuel blockade.

Speaking before the UN Security Council on Tuesday, Rodriguez demanded global mobilization and solidarity to safeguard Cuba against severe energy starvations and potential military aggression.

Tensions escalated dramatically after U.S. President Donald Trump suggested Cuba could be the next target for military intervention following the recent January ouster of Venezuela’s government.

The crisis deepened after Washington cut off Cuban oil supplies and indicted former president Raul Castro over a historical 1996 plane downing.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio affirmed that Washington is laser-focused on shifting Cuba's communist system. Rejecting allegations that Havana poses any national security threat, Rodriguez urged the global body to ‘let Cuba live in peace’.
