Washington DC: U.S. President Donald Trump has said any future agreement with Iran should include broader participation in the Abraham Accords, calling for several additional countries to join the U.S.-brokered normalization framework with Israel.
In remarks shared on social media, Trump said negotiations with Iran were ‘proceeding nicely’ but argued that any final deal should require more nations to sign onto the accords, which were first launched in 2020 during his previous term.
He specifically named countries including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Pakistan, Turkey, Egypt and Jordan as nations he believes should join the agreements. The Abraham Accords originally established diplomatic normalization between Israel and the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain, later expanding to include other countries such as Sudan and Morocco.
Trump said that, after years of U.S. diplomatic efforts, it should be expected that most countries in the region would participate in the agreements simultaneously, though he suggested he could accept limited exceptions.
