Dozens killed in blast targeting train in Pakistan

At least 24 people were killed on Sunday in a blast targeting a train carrying military personnel

A deadly explosion targeting a passenger train carrying military personnel and their families struck near the southwestern Pakistani city of Quetta, leaving several people dead and more than 50 others injured, officials said.

Authorities said army servicemen were among those killed in the blast, which occurred as the train was travelling from Quetta to Peshawar ahead of the Eid holiday.

According to officials, the train was passing a signal point at Chaman Pattak in Quetta when an explosive-laden vehicle rammed into one of the carriages, triggering a powerful explosion.

Images from the scene showed a severely damaged train carriage lying on its side while rescue workers and bystanders searched through the wreckage for survivors. Bloodied victims were seen being carried away on stretchers as armed security personnel secured the area.

The blast shattered windows and damaged nearby vehicles, highlighting the intensity of the explosion.

Officials said many of the army personnel onboard were travelling with their families to celebrate Eid, which is expected to begin on Tuesday.
