Real Madrid start presidential election process

Madrid: Real Madrid has formally triggered the process to elect its next president and board of directors, the club announced on Thursday. The decision, made by the current board of directors, marks the beginning of the electoral cycle for the period spanning 2026 to 2030.
Incumbent president Florentino Perez, who has led the club across two separate tenures since 2000, is widely expected to seek another term. Under his leadership, the club has achieved unprecedented commercial success and secured multiple Champions League titles.
According to the club's statutes, candidates must have been club members for at least 20 years and provide a substantial bank guarantee to qualify. If no other candidates meet these rigorous requirements by the deadline, Perez could be re-proclaimed president without a formal vote, as has happened in several previous election cycles.
