Washington: US President Donald Trump has threatened to resume military strikes on Iran at a “much higher level and intensity” if Tehran refuses to accept a proposed agreement aimed at ending the ongoing conflict.
In a post on Truth Social on Wednesday, Trump said the conflict could end if Iran accepts terms already discussed, adding that the Strait of Hormuz would then be reopened to all shipping, including Iranian vessels.
“If they don’t agree, the bombing starts, and it will be, sadly, at a much higher level and intensity than it was before,” Trump wrote.
The warning comes amid continuing efforts by Washington and Tehran to reach an agreement to end hostilities and restore commercial shipping through the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important energy transit routes.
Trump also suggested that the current US blockade in the Gulf could be lifted if Iran agrees to the proposed framework, raising hopes of de-escalation while simultaneously increasing pressure on Tehran.
