ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, acting as a key mediator in the conflict involving Iran, the United States, and Israel, stated Wednesday that he is ‘hopeful’ current diplomatic momentum will secure lasting peace in the Middle East.

Sharif’s comments follow a significant de-escalation move by the U.S. President Donald Trump, who paused the military escort of commercial ships through the Strait of Hormuz, a mission known as ‘Project Freedom’ just one day after it began.

In a post on X, Sharif praised President Trump’s "courageous leadership" and ‘timely announcement,’ noting that the pause in naval operations will be instrumental in advancing regional reconciliation during this sensitive period.

The Prime Minister emphasized his optimism that these negotiations will lead to a durable agreement, ensuring stability not only for the region but for the international community at large.
