CALIFORNIA: Sony Interactive Entertainment has reached a $7.85 million preliminary settlement to resolve a class-action lawsuit alleging anti-competitive practices within the PlayStation Store.

The legal challenge claimed that Sony established a monopoly by preventing third-party retailers from selling digital game codes, effectively forcing consumers to purchase content exclusively through its own storefront at higher prices.

To qualify for a refund, you must be a U.S. resident who purchased eligible digital games on the PlayStation Store between April 1, 2019, and December 31, 2023.

This includes major titles like God of War and The Last of Us Part II. Most eligible users with active accounts will receive compensation automatically as PSN Store credits following a final fairness hearing scheduled for October 15, 2026.

While Sony continues to deny any wrongdoing, the settlement represents a significant moment for digital consumer rights and market competition in the gaming industry.
