New Delhi: Senior officials from India and Ukraine held key discussions on Friday, focusing on the prospects for a lasting peace as the conflict with Russia continues.

Rustem Umerov, Secretary of Ukraine’s National Security and Defence Council, met with India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval during his visit to New Delhi.

The talks centred on the evolving situation in Ukraine, ongoing negotiations, and the broader goal of achieving a durable and just peace. Umerov, a close associate of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, also briefed Indian officials on developments along the front lines.

India reiterated its long-standing position that the conflict should be resolved through dialogue and diplomatic engagement. Both sides also reviewed bilateral ties and explored ways to strengthen cooperation, including progress on understandings reached during earlier discussions between Zelenskyy and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Kyiv in August 2024.

Officials described the discussions as constructive, with both countries expressing interest in deepening relations while continuing to support efforts aimed at a peaceful resolution of the conflict.
