Strait of Hormuz Reopens — But With Conditions

The strategically vital Strait of Hormuz has been declared fully open to commercial maritime traffic, following parallel statements from both the United States and Iran during a fragile regional ceasefire.

U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Truth Social that the waterway is “completely open and ready for business and full passage.” However, he emphasized that a U.S. naval blockade targeting Iran remains “in full force and effect” until ongoing negotiations between Washington and Tehran are finalized.

Trump added that the diplomatic process is expected to move swiftly, noting that “most of the points are already negotiated,” signaling potential progress in U.S.-Iran relations.

Meanwhile, Iran confirmed the reopening of the strait under specific conditions. Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi stated that, in line with the ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon, commercial vessels are permitted to transit through the Strait of Hormuz for the duration of the truce.

Araghchi noted that ships must adhere to a “coordinated route” designated by Iranian maritime authorities, underscoring continued regulatory oversight despite the reopening.

The Strait of Hormuz, a critical chokepoint for global energy supplies, remains under close international scrutiny as geopolitical tensions persist in the region.
