Nine Killed in School Shooting in Southern Turkey, Second Attack in Two Days
At least nine people, including eight students and one teacher, were killed in a school shooting in southern Turkey, marking the second such incident in just two days.
The attack took place at Ayser Calik Secondary School in the Kahramanmaras region, where a gunman opened fire inside classrooms, causing panic among students and staff. Authorities said several others were injured, with some reported to be in critical condition.
According to officials, the attacker was also killed during the incident. Initial reports suggest the suspect may have been a teenager who entered the school armed with multiple weapons. Local media indicated that the firearms were linked to his father, a former police officer, who has since been detained for questioning.
Eyewitness footage showed students attempting to escape through windows as gunfire echoed through the building, while parents rushed to the scene in distress.
The motive behind the attack remains unclear, and authorities have launched a full investigation.
The incident comes a day after another shooting at a high school in southern Turkey, where an ex-student injured several people before taking his own life, raising serious concerns over school safety and gun access in the country.
Recep Tayyip Erdoğan expressed condolences and wished a swift recovery to the injured, as the nation grapples with the back-to-back tragedies.
