LONDON: UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron have agreed to discuss the establishment of a multinational mission to safeguard the Strait of Hormuz. The decision follows high-level talks focused on maintaining maritime freedom and protecting global energy supplies in the strategic corridor.
The proposed mission aims to deter potential interference with commercial shipping and ensure the safe passage of vessels through the strait, which is a vital artery for international trade. Both leaders emphasized that the initiative would be defensive in nature and intended to uphold international law.
The move comes at a time of heightened friction in the region, with the UK and France seeking to coordinate with international partners to prevent further escalation. Discussions are expected to continue over the coming weeks to define the scope, command structure, and participation of the coalition.
