ROME: Bishops from both Italy and the United States have united in defense of Pope Francis after a sharp public outburst from Donald Trump. The controversy stems from the Pope’s recent remarks regarding the humanitarian crisis at the borders, which the former president criticized as being politically motivated.

In a rare cross-continental show of solidarity, the Italian Episcopal Conference and several high-ranking US Catholic bishops issued statements affirming that the Pope’s message is rooted in the Gospel rather than partisan politics. They emphasized that advocating for the dignity and safety of migrants is a core tenet of the faith.

‘The Holy Father’s words are a call to conscience, not a political maneuver,’ stated one senior bishop. The religious leaders warned that inflammatory rhetoric risks further polarizing communities and urged a return to a dialogue centered on human rights and international cooperation.
