US Vice President JD Vance has departed for Islamabad, Pakistan, to lead high-stakes peace talks aimed at ending the ongoing conflict with Iran. Expressing cautious optimism before his departure, Vance noted that the administration is ‘hopeful for a positive outcome’ that could restore regional stability and secure global energy markets.

The Islamabad summit, scheduled for Saturday, April 11, brings together representatives from the United States, Iran, and several mediating nations. The primary goal is to transform the current fragile two-week ceasefire into a more permanent diplomatic framework. These negotiations follow a period of intense volatility that has seen record-high fuel prices and several ‘shadow war’ incidents across the Middle East.

Vance’s mission is seen as a critical test of the current administration’s ‘America First’ diplomatic strategy. While the Vice President emphasized the need for ‘ironclad guarantees’ regarding regional security, the international community is closely watching to see if the two sides can overcome deep-seated mistrust. Successful talks could lead to a significant de-escalation of tensions and provide much-needed relief to a global economy currently reeling from energy supply disruptions.
