BERLIN: German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul recently commended U.S. President Donald Trump for delaying his ultimatum to Iran in favor of diplomatic negotiations. Speaking in Berlin alongside Tunisian counterpart Mohamed Ali Nafti, Wadephul emphasized that this shift creates a vital window for peace.

"It is commendable that the U.S. President has postponed his ultimatum to the Iranian regime for a few days and is now seeking negotiations," Wadephul said alongside his Tunisian counterpart Mohamed Ali Nafti in Berlin.

Berlin remains optimistic that the Iranian regime will seize this opportunity. Although Germany is not a direct participant in the current talks reportedly occurring in Pakistan, Wadephul stressed that the international community must support these efforts to succeed. "Iran's regime would be well-advised to respond to this now. So, if there is a window of opportunity for diplomacy, we should definitely give talks a chance." he said.

The German leadership views these negotiations as a welcome alternative to military escalation. By prioritizing diplomacy over conflict, both nations have a rare chance to achieve a stable resolution, provided all parties remain committed to the dialogue.

"We must, of course, wait and see what these talks in Pakistan, in which we are not participating but which are now apparently taking place, will yield, which is certainly welcome," Wadephul said.
