Dubai Issues New Public Safety Law to Protect Residents and Visitors
His Highness Sheaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President of the United Arab Emirates and Prime Minister, in his capacity as Ruler of Dubai, has issued Law No. (2) of 2026 on Public Safety in Dubai. The law, which will come into effect on June 1, 2026, aims to establish a comprehensive legal framework to ensure the highest levels of protection for individuals and property while supporting sustainable development efforts.
According to the Emirates News Agency (WAM), the new legislation is designed to reduce injuries and damages resulting from accidents, ensure the safety of products and services, and set precise preventive standards for public spaces, entertainment venues, and events. The law is expected to enhance tourism and promote a culture of public safety across the community.
Under the new law, the Environment, Health, and Safety Department of Dubai Municipality will be responsible for supervision and enforcement. The legislation specifies detailed safety requirements for public sites, including compliance of equipment with standards, provision of firefighting and first-aid systems, regulation of entry and exit according to capacity limits, and adherence to permitted noise levels.
