Beijing announced on Thursday that it plans to send a special envoy to the Middle East to help mediate and end the ongoing conflict between Israel and the United States on one side and Iran on the other, as the war entered its sixth day.
China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Foreign Minister Wang Yi informed his counterparts in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates about Beijing’s intention to dispatch a diplomatic representative to the region to facilitate dialogue and de-escalation.
According to the ministry, Wang stressed that further expansion of the war involving Iran would not serve the interests of any party and warned that a wider regional conflict could have serious consequences.
During a phone call with Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, Wang also expressed China’s appreciation for Saudi Arabia’s restraint and its commitment to resolving disputes through peaceful means.
He further called for ensuring the safety of international maritime navigation routes, highlighting concerns about the potential impact of the conflict on global shipping and regional stability.
China’s move to send a special envoy signals Beijing’s growing diplomatic engagement in efforts to reduce tensions in the Middle East and prevent the conflict from escalating further.
