Washington D.C.: The United States Central Command announced on Sunday that US forces struck an Iranian naval frigate, saying the vessel is currently sinking in the Gulf of Oman near the port of Chabahar.
In a statement, the command said American forces hit the Iranian frigate Jamaran during the start of what it described as “Operation Epic Rage.”
According to the statement, the warship is “currently sinking to the bottom of the Gulf of Oman near the dock of Chabahar Port.”
The US command added that, as stated by Donald Trump, members of Iran’s armed forces, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, and police “must lay down their weapons,” urging personnel to evacuate the ship.
CENTCOM did not provide further details about the circumstances of the strike or the exact timing of the operation.
There has been no official response so far from Iranian authorities regarding the US statement.
The announcement came shortly after Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps claimed it had targeted the US aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln with four ballistic missiles.
