Thailand is preparing plans to evacuate its citizens from the Middle East using military aircraft or chartered flights as tensions escalate in the region.
Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said on Sunday that the government is closely monitoring the situation following recent military strikes involving the United States, Israel, and Iran.
Speaking to reporters in Bangkok, the Prime Minister said the government has already coordinated with the Royal Thai Air Force to prepare aircraft for possible evacuation operations.
Authorities plan to prioritize Thai citizens currently in Iran if an evacuation becomes necessary.
The government is also considering the option of chartering commercial flights to assist with the evacuation if required.
However, officials are still assessing the situation, particularly the status of airspace closures in the region. According to Anutin, Thai nationals may first be evacuated to a third country if direct flights are not possible due to airspace restrictions.
The Thai government said it remains on standby and will take immediate action to ensure the safety of its citizens in the region if conditions worsen.
